The North Atlanta Digital Presence Gap

How the study estimated website absence, Google Business Profile gaps, incomplete digital profiles, AI search risk, and revenue-at-risk figures.

How This Study Was Conducted

The Digital Presence Gap Study was produced by Make It Loud Digital Marketing to quantify the scale of digital invisibility among employer businesses across four North Atlanta counties: Gwinnett, Forsyth, Cherokee, and Hall.

Data Sources

U.S. Census Bureau, County Business Patterns

Used to establish employer establishment counts across Gwinnett, Forsyth, Cherokee, and Hall counties, including the Gwinnett County employer establishment count of 27,653.

U.S. Census Bureau, Nonemployer Statistics

Used to contextualize the broader regional business universe when sole proprietors, freelancers, and independent contractors are included.

Google Business Profile Ecosystem Data

Used to estimate the share of businesses lacking effective or complete Google Business Profile listings.

Consumer Behavior Research

Published third-party research informed benchmarks related to internet use for local business discovery, local mobile search behavior, and Google review consultation.

AI Search Citation Analysis

Independent research on ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews informed the study's discussion of AI citation overlap and AI referral conversion rates.

Time Period

Analysis reflects business data and consumer research available through the study's publication period. AI search behavior data reflects a rapidly evolving landscape as of the study date and should be considered a snapshot of an actively shifting environment.

Analysis Approach

Revenue-at-risk figures were derived by applying a conservative average annual revenue of $300,000 per employer establishment and a 15% lost-opportunity rate attributable to digital invisibility. Website absence rates of 17% to 27% were applied to the regional employer base to generate the estimated range of 8,070 to 12,817 businesses operating without any web presence. The 50% to 60% figure for incomplete or non-converting digital profiles reflects aggregated audit findings across the region.

Limitations

  • Business counts fluctuate continuously due to openings, closures, and reclassifications.
  • Revenue-at-risk calculations are modeled estimates, not audited financial figures.
  • AI search behavior data is time-sensitive because AI-powered search tools are changing quickly.
  • The study is informational and should not be read as a guarantee of marketing, advertising, or revenue performance for any individual business.
