Gwinnett County's veteran-owned businesses represent an estimated $2.9 billion economic force, according to Serving Those Who Served: Gwinnett County's Veteran Business Community, a research report published with Veterans Junk Removal.
Drawing on U.S. Census Bureau data, SBA Veteran Ownership Statistics, and Federal Reserve Small Business Credit Survey findings, the report examines the economic scale and demographic vulnerability of Gwinnett County's veteran entrepreneur community.
The U.S. Census Bureau's 2022 American Community Survey confirms 961 veteran-owned employer businesses operating in Gwinnett County. The report estimates that those firms support 10,250 jobs and generate approximately $567 million in annual wages.
When solo operators are included, the report estimates Gwinnett's total veteran-owned business community at 5,113 firms. The report also notes that Gwinnett County is home to 37,754 veterans.
The report identifies a national ownership challenge. SBA data cited in the report shows the veteran share of business ownership falling from approximately 16% in 2001 to 5.5% in 2022, while 53% of veteran business owners nationwide are over age 65.
"This report puts real numbers on an economic community that most people walk past every day without knowing what they are looking at."
